While specific topics related to the Railroad Industry, aligning with Wabtec values are offered in this challenge, we are open to a topic of your choice in the context of Railroad Industry.
These topics are designed to provide an exposure to a wide cross-section of on-going and futuristic developments in the Railroad Industry. This combination of open-ended topics requires creative/lateral thinking as well as specialized domain knowledge to provide a solution. Some topics are interdisciplinary
(e.g., mechanical and software, engines and controls, etc.) while others are deep domain (e.g., robotic welding, dev-apps, etc.).
With this contest, we want to connect with all on campus and offer equal opportunity. Furthermore, we want to challenge you in multiple ways and appeal to different intellectual palates. The spectrum of the topics enables students from different academic departments, different years of study starting from undergraduates to doctoral curriculum, students from core engineering to humanities to industrial design to participate in this challenge. There is no limit on how many teams can participate from your institute.
Participation in the challenge provides a taste of technical environment or inner workings of industrial product & software development, and applied research. In accordance, mentors have been identified per topic, to act as extended team in Wabtec or act as sounding boards while you work on projects. These mentors are the technical leads, senior engineers, software architects, lead systems engineers, or principal engineers who form the technical backbone of our organization. They have deep domain understanding as well as system or product or technology views for the various facets of Railroad Industry. You can connect with relevant mentors and utilize their expertise once you have decided on the topic. The choice of the topic is final and binding, unless the designated mentor becomes unavailable.
The purpose of the challenge is to provide you an opportunity to unleash your creative capabilities and align them with business realities; a collaborative plan between your right and left part of the brains!
